surely for 4 RX pins you only need 4 pins if using softserial, maybe +4 for dummy tx/compatibilty ? if you want bells and whistles the 4 usarts, curiously in CubeMX using F407V if you set up the usarts 1, 2, 3, each to async the only remaining usart/uart's shrinks to usart6 i rather suspect 'really ...

one thing i keep seeing is too add a decently sized capacitor 10-50uF on the 3v3 at the the device.
mine are on the actual device pcb. i.e. moves with the device

i've seen a 10mm thick lump of aluminium used in the same way. i suppose anything flat and really conductive would do the same. you'd probably need to clamp to stop bend, not a problem with sand.
rapidly cooling down either would be interesting.

ivstr led flashing means still trying to get signal lock, steady when it is locked. usually when i took it outside and enough sky to see i think 3 sats at a minimum. what i should do is ask what your actual hardware is ? from ebay/aliexpress etc and can you post the link or maybe you've built your o...
