Re: Greetings from Reading, Pa

Welcome We have several ham radio operators in the site, including me... I've not used the STM32 for any traditional ham radio related activities, but I have been looking at some LoRa modules as they can operate on 2m and 70cm. I've been hoping to set up a test with Lee (VK3KP) or NIck (VK3TY) bough...

Re: ST-Link Vs Jlink

Rick I did investigate whether it would be possible to make a USB mass storage bootloader but I think the overhead of the file system, made it quite large Drive letter on Windows can also be a problem for automating the USB Mass storage, as the IDE does have a dropdown to select mass storage drive f...

Re: ST-Link Vs Jlink

With JLink you are also playing for JFlash and the large suite of tools which support thousands of processors. STLink is only designed to program ST devices (but can program others if you use Open OCD) , hence it just has a simple windows GUI and command line exe Note. STLink on some Nucleo boards a...

Re: Complete dashboard for an old car

Andy

Why does the power have to be physically removed from the STM32 by a relay ?

Won't just putting it into low power mode, reduce the current consumption considerably ?

Re: Newbie question about 'short' and 'uint16_t' data types

ken,

You could post your code and ask people for suggestions to speed it up.

BTW I presume you already inlined the functions and looked at unrolling loops and also branch optimisation, and use of lookup tables etc etc

Re: Complete dashboard for an old car

I forgot to say, my problem was compounded by leaving the car at the airport for a month, but.. Yes. do not leave the STM32 running all the time. Lipo sounds good idea, as in its Low power / sleep mode, it will run for many months on a 2000mAH battery. Probably run it from tha battery all the time, ...

Re: ST-Link Vs Jlink

I have found that the JLink boards from China have a habit of erasing themselves, Fortunately someone posted an old binary on the web ages ago and it is possible to reflash them. Nevertheless it’s a pain when this happens Also there are some JLinks on eBay ( from China) which use a STM32. They do wo...

OK

Some things are a lot faster with higher optimisation settings, but your code could potentially already be quite well optimised

Re: Newbie question about 'short' and 'uint16_t' data types

On the F1 floats and doubles will be slower as it does not have a FPU The F4 has a FPU so the speed would be almost identical for both int and float Try the -O3 optimisation setting, you will probably notice a decent increase in speed Personally, I would prefer if the default was -O2 but the view of...

Re: Recomendations for working components - TFT, OLED, ..

I doubt the frequency library would work without modifications. It’s a Teensy library which also has AVR support, but would probably not work on other processors like ESP8266 or ESP32 or SRM32 without modification The modifications may be as simple as adding more #ifdef clauses into the code, but it...
