Post by madias » Tue Apr 28, 2015 9:12 am

Roger,
could you please tell us:
a) max size of attachement allowed
b) which file types?

Thank you!
Matthias

Hi Matthias

I'll need to check

Its just currently the PHPBB defaults ;-)

My only concern is backing up the data if we have a lot of big attachments

Anyway I'll check the settings and get back to you

Well, what are the actual settings?
I just uploaded a few pictures, though not being horribly big in file size (~300k IIRC), it was rejected, perhaps for the high resolution. I gradually scaled it down until it was OK, but it was hi-or-miss action.
I'd like to add pictures directly to posts, not just to insert links from image upload sites (that would save you backup bandwidth, though), as those often tend to disappear into oblivion, leaving just few years old forum post full of "404" images.

I use the PHPBB defaults

I just logged in as Admin and checked and ...

For files

Maximum file size: 256k
Maximum file size messaging:256k
Maximum number of attachments per post:3
Maximum number of attachments per private message:1

For images

Maximum thumbnail width in pixel:400 pixels
Minimum thumbnail file size:12000 bytes

I can't see any other settings

If you need to know more. Its probably best just to Google PHPBB Attachments, and see if PHPBB themselves have any other information

<...>
Low res. 800x600 or smaller for attachment works well.
For high res., use a hosting service such as Yahoo's Flickr and link here... just be kind tk tablet & mobile users and identify the link as high resolution! Same for links that are PDF, etc.

Example: High Res. ESP8266-07

I think the max total attachment size for the whole site is set to 50Mb, so its best if people use their own storage for large items, as I can't guarantee that all the attachments would survive if the site hosting had a major problem with the hosting.

I download the site database backups about once a week, (when I remember to do it), as otherwise its just backed up onto the same server its hosed on.
