Power Consumption Budget Analysis Tool

Post by Pito » Thu Jan 04, 2018 12:00 pm

Attached plz find a simple "Power Consumption Budget Analysis and Estimation Tool" I created for people who want to design a low-power data logging stuff.
It is a beta version, provided as-is with no warranties of any kind.
Yellow boxes - enter your data.
Green - the results.
You may add/remove your Modules/Parts, copy the calcs from the previous lines then.
Mind the ms, mA, mAh, hours when entering the data.
The total Operation Time consists of N Sampling periods.
A Sampling period consists of Active and Idle time ( Active time + Idle time = Sampling period).

Note:
During your "Active time" the actual current flowing through the module/device could have a fairly complex shape (when observed with an oscilloscope for example). You have to estimate a single number out of it then.
For example viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3048#p39452 - the "w SD control event" 103ms long may get 20mA current estimate (that is my estimate) :)
To get a good estimate make the Active time longer (ie. in a loop) and do measure the current flowing through the specific module/part with a multimeter.
In case you have a device which is Active, for example, every 100 Sampling periods, enter Active_time/100.

The yellow inputs below are EXAMPLES only, enter your estimates.

even though i've never used it, power consumption is a tab within CubeMX
might be worth a look ?

Updated above.
1. the Active time "=ON" (like "always on") copies the sampling period into the cell.
2. log10 scale in Discharge Per Module/Part summary graph
3. Idle time cell will be red colored if the Active time does not match the Sampling Period
4. the example data entered are more "low-power" trimmed, but not necessarily correct :)
5. small edits..

It depends on what you do - when you are chasing uAmps for your planet Mars data logger then YES.
Take the data from CubeMX for the STM32 and put it into my table :)
