I presumed that the main problem was the ARM compiler, but I presume that the tools binaries would also be incorrect and need to be recompiled from source for RPi as its an ARM board

I've only just started using Raspian 5 months ago and after downloading the Arduino IDE (ARM). It's been fun learning about all the different MCUs out there. I've had trouble with the Pro Mini, ESP32 and now the STM32. Was very excited to get the Teensy 3.6 and the ESP-12E NodeMCU to work. I'm a bit spooked about messing up the teensy at $40 a pop, that's the main reason I'm wanting to be able to use the STM32 only $7.

The project I'm working on now is using a Pro Micro to display buttons on a touch screen and send the presses/commands to an RC boat.

BTW.
You can get the BluePill boards for a little over $2 USD

Teensy is great, very fast and professional support from Paul, but if you dont need that level of performance the BluePill etc are IMHO the best bang per buck.
