Hello there (Nafpaktos / Greece)

Post by nikosx » Wed Oct 18, 2017 10:30 am

Hello from Nafpaktos / Greece !

I'm an electronics engineer with first experience with a Z80 custom build board & basic firmware just after academy.

Worked a lot with Motorola HC05 & HCS12 (up to now), mostly s/w and also many Microchip PIC projects (most of the time 16F and 18F).

About two years ago started ARM embedded projects (with TI Tiva C TM4C1294 & recently C123 with Energia and finally Visual studio 10 / VS Arduino).

Very interested in STM32 due to their prices / variety, so got some Blue pils & Nucleo 64 boards with the same VS 10 / STM32 framework...Still having some problems to port s/w from TI TivaC to them)

Also worked a lot in windows programming, mostly VB 6 & now VS Studio VB & C# with some projects including PLCs (above Motorola HS12 and PICs supervisor & monitoring).

Nick

Welcome Nick

I know we have at least one other member in Greece, who is Vassilis who I think is in Thessaloniki

However, I dont think you should have too many problems as you have already used lots if different MCUs and CPUs

....Some more :

Got also a VL discovery..... works OK with Arduino, not with VS 10....
Still problems with Blue pills....

I Think Nucleo boards are much more easy to work with, since they have out of the box USB programmin & a serial debug port (very usefull)

Use a cheap ST-Link interface (or the STlink from a nucleo board) or a Black Magic Probe with blue pill, anyway using SWD for download (and debug) it's much easier.
You can also transform a Blue Pill to Black Magic Probe very easily.
Always I had problems using bootloader with USB CDC... (no consistent reset after downloading, lock of USB interface in case of program failure, etc), SWD is the way to go....

PS
I have visited Nafpaktos many times... very nice!

Hi.

Yes i've seen the case of using a nucleo ST link to program another board.... But if you have used an all in one board it's overkill (for me at least).
Also seed the problems with USB reset, etc. For now i have another project to complete and no time to experiment with pill.....
