Yes. I know, but I don't think they make a zero without wifi and you could attach a USB Enternet adaptor

Re: adding web server and SSL

We server is probably possible, but SSL is where things start to get hard.

Hence why ESP32 and Zero would be a lot less work, because its already written for Zero and possibly already for ESP32

SSL would just be the icing on the cake...
it's more important to stay small and wired, since, as I mentioned, they go into tiny spaces in the walls in my house :)
so power consumption (and therefore heat dissipation) is an issue too...

OK.

If you can get all the rest of the functionality working on an Arduino Nano, I think its very likely you will be able to get a simple web server working ;-)

BTW.
I'm actually in agreement with you about the RPi Zero etc.
I have 4 RPi boards (an original Model B, a RPi 3, a Zero and a Zero W) and I do not use any of them.


I seem to be able to build most projects using STM32, ESP8266, nRF52/nRF52 or ESP32.
