Red Pill or Blue Pill?

Generic boards that are not Maple or Maple mini clones, and don't contain the additional USB reset hardware

The red pill and blue pill use the same pinouts. You shouldn't have to do anything. They are completely interchangeable.
Thanks .. I just notice that they are the same pinout, so for the Blue Pill, I will have to do the "R10" operation like before ??

If you are asking do you have to worry about the PA12 pullup resistor with the red pill board, then no. The red pill boards I have ordered all had the proper 1k5 resistor. Just try it. I'm guessing it will just work.

I'm not sure why you would want a Red Pill, apart from the colour.
AFIK they are functionally equivalent to the Blue Pill

A better option now seems to be the Robot Dyn version which has a black coloured PCB, and has the correct USB pullup resistor (unlike the Blue and Red pill which both have the incorrect resistor resulting in USB connection issues for some people)

Thanks...

All my red pills have broken USB connectors, so I am still not sure if they are worth buying unless they now use a stronger usb connector

There are BluePills with 2 pads- or 4 pads-style microusb sockets.
I've been ordering only the 4 pads ones.

The 4 pads ones come in two variants:
1. soldered to the pcb - sometimes not well enough
2. weakly soldered, the mechanical connection to the pcb done by pressing the fins into the mounting holes and soldered with a tiny amount of solder.

As the microusb connectors create a much bigger insertion force on the socket (in comparison with mini usb used in MM) the 4 pads in both 1. and 2. need to be resoldered with a large blob of tin such the pads and the adjacent body (the walls) of the socket are covered by the tin.
That improves the mechanical and electrical durability.

That is exactly the problem. It also the reason I penned this redpill vs bluepill post in the first place. I have 5 red pills with perfectly good pullup and usb connectors that have snapped off : (

@Pito

I do the same thing... Solder the BluePill through holes on the connector to make it stronger
