maple mini clone stm32f103 consuming 250 mA

Post by ag123 »

I've got a maple mini (clone) stm32f103cbt6 that the chip and the LDO gets too hot to touch after a while, nearly get a burn while trying that.

I measured that 'old' maple mini clone using one of those usb power monitor
https://www.electroschematics.com/usb-p ... -teardown/

I got a reading of almost 250 mA ! that is nearly 1.25 watts based on 5v USB power.
and the current is well above 50 mA with HSE and all peripherals enabled given in the specs sheet.
It leaves me wondering if there could be shorts or some such.

just tested out another similar maple mini clone, this time the reading hardly read even a 10 mA.
Hence, that should be the norm.
It is quite interesting though that the temperature sensor, measures 44 deg C

Vref int (1.2v):1503
temp sensor:1894
mvolt:1512
temp:44.07
Vref int (1.2v):1503
temp sensor:1893
mvolt:1511
temp:43.84
Vref int (1.2v):1502
temp sensor:1894
mvolt:1513
temp:44.30

I'd guess that is because it is junction temperature at the die.

that temp sensor isn't very accurate. The F0's have a better adc (calibration).
