Mini ST-link V2 current?

Postby turboscrew » Fri Mar 17, 2017 8:58 pm

Does anyone know how much current can be drawn from those Chinese mini ST-link V2 dongles?
Is it safe to power a blue pill and a radio module with it?
The radio module draws about 130 mA when transmitting with full power.
At least some versions have 500 mA self-resetting fuses, but I guess that 500 mA is well over "safe" continuous level.

running the BluePill on its own should be Ok. I have done that, a few times.

But dont put any more load.

The regulators on all these devices, including the BluePill are known to be problematic and some people have had them go off like firecrackers.

If in doubt power the BP and STlink from Usb and join the grounds.

Use an external regulator if you have a big external load
