[SOLVED] Serial monitor with STlink - not possible

Post by petan » Sat Dec 23, 2017 11:34 pm

Hi,
I would like to use Serial monitor for debug like with Arduino.

I have "blue pill" board with STM32F103C8T6 and "ST-link V2" from aliexpress. And Arduino IDE.
I can send program to board with no problem. See down.

Code: Select all

STM32 ST-LINK CLI v2.1.0
STM32 ST-LINK Command Line Interface

ST-LINK SN : 49FF71064985485617441687
ST-LINK Firmware version : V2J28S7
Connected via SWD.
SWD Frequency = 1800K.
Connection mode : Normal.
Device ID:0x410
Device flash Size : 64 Kbytes
Device family :STM32F10xx Medium-density

Loading file...
Flash Programming:
  File : C:\Users\Petr\AppData\Local\Temp\arduino_build_302819\Blink.ino.bin
  Address : 0x08000000
Flash memory programming...

Flash memory programmed in 1s and 125ms.
Programming Complete.

MCU Reset.

Application started.
But there is no usable serial port. When I click on "Serial Monitor" Arduino IDE writes "Board at COM3 is not available". Now, there is no serial port in my Device manager.

Does somebody have any idea how to add serial port to connect with Arduino IDE directly with ST-Link?

Where did you get the information that STLink supports serial communication port?
AFAIK, it is not possible.

Connect a USB cable from PC to the micro USB slot of the blue pill. That's it.

You are right. Serial monitor via USB works.
I thought I can use serial monitor via ST-Link.
