ChibiStudio anyone?

Postby visinet » Fri Dec 16, 2016 10:24 pm

Just came across this, http://www.chibios.org/dokuwiki/doku.ph ... udio:start, a week or so ago and looks interesting. I know this is an Arduino focused group but does anyone have any experience with it? I have evaluated the http://gnuarmeclipse.github.io/ project and am currently using and very pleased with the latest EmBitz stuff but figured I would just check with the community to see what, if any, experience anyone has with this.

Cheers.

That is the Address number one I would knock on the door when talking an RTOS for STM32.
The Chibios is the fastest, smallest and finetuned for stm32. The community there is responsive and Giovanni supports the forum there almost 24x7 :) . Afaik he works at STM.
ChibiStudio - a complete Eclipse based IDE, with everything bundled and pre-configured (and working) at first click..

Does it work only with ChibiOS? Any hope to use it without OS?

There are 3 variants of ChibiOS: RT, NIL, and HAL. You can use them in ChibiStudio or in another IDE. The main reason for another IDE is the speed. Eclipse is quite slow in comparison. The other reason is the enhanced debugging features. By coincidence, the ChibiOS discussion is quite active in EmBitz forum. There was a demo how to use ChibiOS on F407 using EmBitz.

Would be it possible to make similar version of ChibiOS/RT like there is for STM32F1/FreeRTOS821 ? I would be using only RTOS functions.

We have FreeRTOS already in the STM32F103 repertoire:

Or,
Are you wanting only ChibiOS implementation?

Thanks Ray. Yes, I would like to try ChibiOS implementation. I only need RTOS functions like tasks, semaphores etc. I'm using STM32F1 FreeRTOS in one of my projects and it works very well! But for comparison it would be nice to try ChibiOS too.

Sorry, I was not very clear in my question and what I was looking for. To clear things up I was interested in the IDE and peoples experience with it and not the RTOS. How does it compare with EmBitz and the other eclipse and non-eclipse options out there.

Thanks

We recently had a little discussion on IDE's:

As for my take on things, it is your personal decision... Looks like a site search on "EmBitz" yields a number of posts: https://www.google.com/search?q=emblitz+site%3Astm32duino.com&oq=emblitz+site%3Astm32duino.com
