5$ free shipping 10x10cm 2-layer PCB (5pcs)

Post by Just4Fun » Mon Nov 27, 2017 1:23 pm

Hi all,
just discovered the new price of AllPCB for the "standard" 10x10cm 2-layer green PCB (5PCS).

The shipping is now free, and it claims 7 days from order to delivery.

I've just ordered a batch of 5 to check the quality (never used their service). It should arrive on 5 December (Italy). I've payed 5$ plus 0.49$ for paypal fee (4,79€ total).

I'm very curious... I'll post here the result...

5 December of which year?
Free shipping usually means about one week to reach Italy, one or two week in Poste Italiane customs in Milan and then start to reach you. Usually one month but we are close to Christmas, maybe next year!

Anyway it is interesting!

I just placed my second order with them. First one was perfect in every sense. I will post a detailed review with pictures in another thread, but so far I think they are great. Once my second order arrives, I will see if they are consistent or was a lucky first order.

EDIT:
By the way is 10 pieces for $5, and I got 11-12 of them.

As a matter of interest, I had a play with their PCB assembly quotation system, and it’s calculations are a bit strange.

Optimum number of boards seems to be 20, as at 21 the price goes up about 15 fold.

More through holes reduces the cost !

Double sided seems to add $50 almost independent of quantity.

Number of SMD components or SMD pads doesn’t seem to make a huge difference nor does number of different SMD devices

LOL... You are right... 10pcs for 5$ with free shipping.. :o

I was so surprised that I missed to check the 10pcs option... and the price is the same!!!!

Anyway 5pcs is enough for a test...

You will likely get 7 or 8 anyway if you ordered 5

I just checked the assembly quotes, as Roger said is funny. Adding thru hole parts up to 35 reduces the cost, but from 36 forward it increases the cost.
I think they probably have a number of rules in the backend to calculate those numbers that don't make complete sense when you reach the points where they switch from one rule to another.
21 boards is more expensive than 20, but 40 boards is less than twice the price of 20, so there is big jump, and then small increment per extra board. Probably because they use different houses or processes to produce 20 or less, than 21 or more.

I think all the cheap pcb www sites use the same pcb manufacturer. They differ in the way how they process the incoming orders before the final data are sent to the manufacturer..
Few years back I had a chat with a guy from such site and he/she wrote me they get the data from you, then the data are sent (by the single entry point guy) to the network of people (they used to use a "distributed" system of people running their own home PCs with "their own systems") who do the initial check and fixes (and panelizing), and afterwards the people send the data to the manufacturer. My chat started while I saw the same data sent twice were processed in 2 different ways by them :)
When a site is able to process the incoming data automatically, they may lower the price significantly, sure.

Arrived today... :o

So, on 27/11 I sent the files and after 4 days...

If you right click on the image and choose "View image", you can see all the details.

They sent me 7 PCB for a 5pcs order (my fault... I didn't realized that for 10pcs the price is the same... )

You can see their production code (ALL-....) in the first photo, inside the L3 footprint.

I've done a quick check with an optical microscope and it seems all ok.

Really unbelievable!
