GITHUB and what does 'updated' actually mean ?

Post by zmemw16 » Tue Jan 23, 2018 5:10 pm

Updated <some time ago> ago
i've a bad habit of pulling a zip when some variation of the above string happens, but i've noticed that i keep getting duplicates of the zip, at least by the md5sum results.
so the real question is 'what actually indicates a change in the code?'

so click on latest commit ?

but does that actually mean the code has been updated ?
Arduino_STM32 roger's archive says 1hr ago

There's a green 'clone or download' button on the front page of the repo - that will always download the latest updates to the master branch.

You can download the other branches too using the button on the left to change branch.

An updated is generated also if you only change something in a readme file.

that's the one i use, it pops up a clone or zip file option box.
given it says latest commit of say 12hrs, i'd download it at 1500(now) as Arduino_STM32-240120180300.zip
then some time later it may say 2hr, similar to above rename -240120181300.zip

and they md5sum the same, so what am i doing wrong or is there something i'm missing ?
worse case i suppose is to use the clone option.

Perhaps some odd cacheing issue?

I usually git pull against my install.
