What STM32 board should you buy

Post by RogerClark » Fri Aug 18, 2017 12:25 am

Boards

Currently most forum members use a STM32F103C board, of some form.

These offer exceptional "bang for your buck", as they deliver approximately 10 x the performance of a AVR based Arduino board like the Uno, or Pro Mini, at a cost of around $0.50 more than the Pro Mini.

This can be bought from a number of different suppliers for under $3 USD.

Note. All Blue Pill boards are manufacturered with an incorrect USB pull-up resistor, which means that the USB does not work on some PCs. So you may need to do some soldering, if it does not work for you.
Please see the wiki for more information. http://wiki.stm32duino.com/index.php?title=Blue_Pill

Search on your local eBay for "stm32f103c8t6 board for Arduino"

e.g. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=s ... or+Arduino

or AliExpress for "stm32f103c8t6 minimum board"

e.g. https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?ca ... imum+board

Please note.
This board will not be usable when you receive it, as it does not contain a bootloader.

In order to install the bootloader you will need a USB to Serial converter or a STLink adaptor.

STLink (clones) can be purchased from eBay or AliExpress etc for a few dollars

As can USB to Serial Adaptors

If you do not want the hassle of installing a bootloader. You should buy a

Maple mini (clone)

These are about $1 more expensive

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=u ... i&_sacat=0

Please note.
Look at the picture of what you are about to buy on eBay as a lot of boards are listed as Maple mini, which are completely different boards
