Arduino 1.8 when CC and ORG are fusing together

Postby Ollie » Thu Dec 22, 2016 5:53 pm

Today, I started to play with Arduino 1.8.0 from CC. It was an upgrade from 1.6.13. In ORG side, the latest available version was 1.7.17 - now they have changed it to 1.8.0. Everything is working kind of right. Some of my error messages could be caused my ESP32 exploring. ESP2866 works OK.

I am wondering when STM32duino (and Teensy) will be ready for 1.8.0.

I do confirm that STM32duino seems to be working with the new IDE version 1.8.0.

At the moment, I haven't been able to resolve the collision of WiFi libraries in native Arduino and Espressif. This was not a problem with version 1.6.13.

Ollie, igrr has not 'certified' the current ESP8266 beyond 1.6.8.
It's nice to see if things will work, but you may be just wasting time.

We have packages available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux (32 and 64 bit).

Install Arduino 1.6.8 from the Arduino website.
Start Arduino and open Preferences window.
Enter http://arduino.esp8266.com/stable/packa ... index.json into Additional Board Manager URLs field. You can add multiple URLs, separating them with commas.
Open Boards Manager from Tools > Board menu and install esp8266 platform (and don't forget to select your ESP8266 board from Tools > Board menu after installation).

Just upgraded on Windows 7, and it seems to work OK for me

I compiled and uploaded the graphics test to my test rig and everything seemed to be fine

Yep, works on Linux Mint 17.3

But, I think lots of weird things happen when the ".Cc" and ".Org" versions are hosted on same PC. I did it under Windows 8.1 but I used symlinks to keep things clean; which is to say I did not follow instructions.

Thanks Ray

It looks like Arduino.cc simply jumped a few version numbers so that both .CC and .ORG version have the same number

Because as far as I can tell, its just the Arduino.cc version, as it retains the boards manager and only the AVR core has the compiler installed by default - where as I thought Arduino.org's version was like 1.5.x which had the ARM compiler as part of the install

Hence why I don't think we're likely to have any issues with this new version (as really its just a rebranded 1.6.13 or perhaps 1.6.14)

Installed 1.8.0 from Arduino.cc on Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 32 bit - Board manager version 2016.12.23 and compiled the Pig-O-Scope sketch (TFT_ILI9163C TFT tiny LCD version) without any trouble. Not exactly in depth testing, but at least the basics work. :D

Good news, my favorite platforms F103/F407, Teesnsy 3.x, and ESP32 are working OK on Arduino 1.8.0. Teensy problems were solved with version 1.34 and ESP32 problems were all created by myself.
